China Aesthetics: Baoxiang Pattern
The Baoxiang pattern is one of the traditional Chinese decorative patterns, generally featuring a certain type of flower (such as a peony or lotus) as the main body. Different shapes and sizes of leaves and flowers are embedded in the middle, especially at the core and base of the petals, arranged in a manner with beads that glisten like precious stones, giving it a rich and magnificent appearance. Hence, it is named the Baoxiang pattern. The formal formation of the Baoxiang pattern occurred during the Sui and Tang dynasties, and the development of the Baoxiang pattern became increasingly mature after the Song dynasty.
